A lower third is a graphic overlay placed in the bottom part of the screen during a broadcast:
- 10 seconds in length
- 30 characters per frame – 60 characters max
- Overflow area allowed for small animations
- Maximum of three animations recommended
- Commercial offers and URLs permitted
- Only program partners can make a direct tie-in with program content
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
- FULL HD composition: 1920x1080, 30 frames/second
- Maximum creative area: 1,500px wide x 140px high
- Transition effects required (e.g., fade in, fade out)
- No audio or film clips
DELIVERY PROCEDURE
- Send the lower-third demo (PDF or video format) for approval 10 business days before broadcast to livraisonbandeau@radio-canada.ca
- Deliver the final files* 5 business days before broadcast to livraisonbandeau@radio-canada.ca
*Final files must be sent in the following three formats:- H264 QuickTime (reference format)
- QuickTime Animation with Alpha (final format)
- 32-bit TARGA sequence with Alpha compressed in .zip format (source file)
- Complete the broadcast instructions form
PRODUCING WITH RADIO-CANADA
Your production request and related material must be received by your sales rep no later than 10 business days before your broadcast date.
Required Material for production:
Creative brief
- Final ad copy
- Animations
- Any other creative instructions that Radio-Canada must follow
Visuals
- File formats: PSD or EPS (layered), TIFF, PICT, TGA, or JPEG (minimal compression)
- 1920x1080px, 72 dpi (if cropping is required, provide a higher-resolution still)
Logo
- EPS or AI vector file, transparent background, RGB mode
Font
- .ttf or .otf
Video material – QuickTime movie (.mov file)*
- Apple ProRes (422, HQ or 4444) or Avid DNxHD (145 or higher, 709 colour space)
- 1920x1080px (16:9 full screen)
