From February 6 to 22, 2026, Italy will host a first in Olympic history: the most geographically expansive Winter Games ever, spanning 22,000 km² across Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige.
The Opening Ceremony will take place at Milan's legendary San Siro Stadium on February 6, while the Closing Ceremony will unfold in Verona's historic Arena on February 22. This balance of Milanese modernity and Veronese heritage perfectly captures the spirit of these Games: a fusion of tradition and innovation.
With 93% of events staged in existing or temporary venues, Milano-Cortina 2026 demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability. Competitions will be spread across four strategic zones:
The urban hub will host figure skating, ice hockey, and speed skating in temporary facilities at Fiera Milano Rho, transforming Italy's economic capital into a sporting epicenter.
This iconic resort, which hosted the 1956 Winter Games, will showcase five existing venues, providing a true alpine setting for bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, and biathlon.
The mountain region will stage 34 events—the highest number of any venue. Bormio will welcome the men's alpine skiing on the legendary Stelvio slope, while Livigno will feature freestyle and moguls at the spectacular Carosello 3000 Park.
These areas will round out the program with Nordic sports, creating a complete ecosystem for winter disciplines.
More than 3,500 athletes from 93 nations will compete for 195 medals across 16 Olympic sports. A major highlight: ski mountaineering will make its Olympic debut, bringing a new spirit of pure adventure to the Games.
